SUMMARY:ART CIRCLE
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 27 November at 2.00pm\nSpeaker: Professor Emeritus Peter McPhee\nSubject: Two women paint the French Revolution\nTwo of the most prestigious and talented portraitists of the late-eighteenth century were Adelaïde Labille-Guiard and Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, who achieved great success as court painters under Louis XVI in the 1780s. In 1789 the French Revolution turned this world upside down, confronting both women with a fundamental choice: how would they respond to revolutionary change? This was a matter of life and death. Author and academic, Professor McPhee, will outline the lives and brilliant achievements of these two extraordinary women.\n$60.00 for optional one course lunch with wine. \n
