Counselling Psychologist and Club Member\nSubject: Before and after the shooting: The impact on a University Counselling Service\nClub member Lyn Waldron will reflect on her work as a psychologist in the Monash University Counselling Service. Most significant was Australia’s only mass student shooting when in 2002 a student brought several guns into a classroom and fired shots instantly killing two of his classmates. Lyn will recount the events of that day and how the subsequent days were managed. Many questions arise. Could this tragedy have been averted? How were the students and the staff affected? How were the counsellors and other involved staff debriefed? What was learned and what measures did the Counselling Service put in place to ensure the ongoing safety of the University community? After 23 years what emotional impact has the shooting left on Lyn and her colleagues?\n
