DESCRIPTION:TUesday 11 November at 10.00am\nLeader: Dr Margot Westhorpe\nSubject: The Humble Picnic Basket\nMargot is a conceptual artist who has exhibited at the Lyceum and a number of Melbourne galleries.\nPicnics are a staple in the Melbourne Cup carpark and in W.Somerset Maugham’s view that “there are few things so pleasant as a picnic lunch”. With this in mind Margot suggests that the humble picnic basket as an object worthy of sketching.\nShe will detail a little of the word’s origins and its history. She observes that the picnic has been the focus of many artists and writers and it features in “Wind in the Willows” and in the mystery of “Picnic at Hanging Rock”. Margot will bring a number of examples for you to consider the amazing weaving and patterning of the picnic basket, as well as its treasure trove once it is opened. You may also bring a basket and lunch cloth of your choice as well as your usual sketching materials.\nAll abilities are most welcome and please remember to book\n$15 for an optional sandwich lunch.\n
