SUMMARY:COMBINED READING GROUPS LUNCH
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 30 October at 12.00pm\nSpeaker: Professor Beth Driscoll, Professor in Publication and Communications and Deputy Dean Academic in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne\nSubject: Why do we read? What experiences do books provide? In this talk based on her book ‘What Readers Do’ Beth will illuminate how contemporary recreational reading involves activities that are dynamic, meaningful and diverse: from scrolling BookTok, to reading on the beach, to attending a writers’ festival. Reading involves shifts between private and social moments. Readers use books to create a style of living, as well as moral conduct, using books to explore judgments about right and wrong. Finally, Beth will look at how readers use mindful, deep reading as a self-care practice.\n$60.00 for one course lunch with wine.\nReading Groups Coordinator: Annita Robson\n
