Dianne will share her experiences and perceptions of her trip, focusing mostly on Riga, which is sometimes referred to as the ‘Paris of the Baltics’ due to its reputation as a beautiful and culturally significant city. It draws comparisons to Paris for its elegance and architectural grandeur, particularly its Art Nouveau buildings. The historical centre of Riga is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Riga boasts a rich history and vibrant culture reflecting influences from German, Russian and Latvian traditions. During and after WW2 it was annexed and occupied by the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union again. Throughout, the strong Latvian community spirit and heritage prevailed, and this continues today in Riga.\n$60.00 for optional one-course lunch with wine at 12:30pm (before the Circle)\n
