SUMMARY:HISTORY CIRCLE
DESCRIPTION:Thursday August 14 at 2.00pm\nSpeaker: Professor Andrea Rizzi, Cassamarca Professor of Italian Studies at the University of Melbourne\nSubject: A (very) short history of Italian food\nHow long is the history of Italian food (and food culture)? We are delighted to have a return visit from Professor Andrea Rizzi for History Circle’s celebration of Italy. His talk will explore the evolution of Italian cuisine, challenging popular myths about its origins and authenticity. From tiramisù to spaghetti carbonara, many so-called “traditional” dishes are surprisingly recent inventions. Drawing on cultural history, the talk reveals that Italian cuisine—like language or identity—is less a fixed heritage than a living performance, always in motion, always reinventing itself on the plate, in the kitchen, and across the globe.\n$60.00 for an optional one course lunch with wine at 12.30pm\n
