He came to Melbourne in 1976 and joined the team researching and developing the techniques leading up to the successful IVF program. It would be difficult to exaggerate the huge amount of work needed at that time to develop the new sciences and surgical techniques, such as laparoscopy, required to make IVF at all possible.
