SUMMARY:ENVIRONMENT CIRCLE
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 15 July at 6.30pm\nSubject: “Meet the neighbours – the bugs in your garden”\nSpeaker: Roger Standen\nRoger has had a lifelong interest in the natural world and developed aAll Events mixed insect collection while still very young.\nHis interest then shifted to a focus on birds which became his lifelong focus. For 25 years he was actively involved with migratory wader research (as an amateur) with the Victorian Wader Study Group and has participated in surveys for numerous threatened bird species.\nIn the last decade, he has returned to his childhood interest of invertebrates. He is keen on exploring behaviours and how things interact, more than just identification, but knowing what things are is the key to finding out more about them.\nRoger tries to photograph what he sees and enters those images to iNaturalist so others know what is seen and anyone studying wildlife can use his data. The images he takes also form the basis for newsletter articles and talks given to groups around the Mornington Peninsula under the auspices of the Peninsula Field Naturalists’ Club.\nHis talk will highlight a number of the creatures that he has found in his Mt Eliza garden, how they interact and some of the exciting benefits that might come from studying our small wildlife.\n$70.00 for optional one course dinner with wine. \n
