She retired from the Bureau of Meteorology in 2018 after a 39-year career culminating in executive roles in technology, data, science and innovation. She contributed significantly to national and international collaborative efforts in climate science/policy, integrated earth observations, data infrastructure and data policy. Through board and advisory roles across science, technology and education, Dr Barrell delivers highly valued outcomes for society and the environment.  She is committed to empowering girls and women in science and leadership, and enjoys sharing experiences with and mentoring those at earlier career stages.\nThe focus of Dr Barrell’s talk is the integrated earth system that connects and sustains all life on Earth and how improved monitoring and understanding of this complex and highly interactive system is essential to inform decision making on many different scales, from the clothes we wear to agricultural productivity to disaster preparedness and response, to building and sustaining resilience and adaptation to an undeniably changing climate. Using her own journey as a framework, Dr Barrell will also introduce you to the choices, opportunities and challenges of a career that took her from weather forecasting, through science policy to science leadership.\n$110.00 for three course dinner with wine\n
