SUMMARY:SCIENCE AND MEDICINE CIRCLE
DESCRIPTION:Monday 27 July at 6.30pm\nSpeaker: Dr. Chris Hall, Senior Beamline Scientist Ansto Australian Synchrotron\nSubject: The Australian Synchrotron: What is it, and what does it do for Australian science?\nThe Australian Synchrotron is arguably the most eclectic science laboratory in the country with 16 world class scientific instruments, based around a particle accelerator which provides the source of ‘light’. The roughly 1200 experiments performed each year cover a huge range of topics from our next generation electronics, drug discovery, imaging blood vessels in the brain, and many more. This talk will describe the works of the synchrotron and why it’s so useful, and showcase some of the experiments, with particular emphasis on those conducted on a special instrument, The Imaging and Medical Beam Line.\nPlease book via the website or email bookings@lyceumclubmelb.org.au and indicate if you wish to stay for an optional dinner.\n$95.00 for a two course dinner with wine.\nConvenors: Emanuela Handman, Norma Sullivan, Christine Sweeney and Christine Thevathasan \n
