DESCRIPTION:Thursday: 13 August at 2.00pm\nSpeaker: Associate Professor Mara Favoretto\nSubject: The Language of Censorship: Allegory, Dictatorship and Argentine Rock.\nThis presentation by Dr Mara Favoretto, Associate Professor of Latin American Studies at the University of Melbourne, will explore how Argentine rock developed under the last military dictatorship (1976-1983) in conditions radically different from its Anglo counterparts. It will examine how censorship operated under the regime and the remarkable boomerang effect of the Falklands War, when the language of authoritarian power-allegory, grandiose metaphor and coded rhetoric-was turned against the military by the artists it sought to silence.
