SUMMARY:ART CIRCLE
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 25 June at 2.00pm \nSpeaker: Professor Anne Dunlop, FAHA, Co-Director, Australian Institute of Art History and Herald Chair of Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne\nA frequent guest at the Club, Anne will share with us her current research on key donor to the NGV – Howard Spensley. With his 1939 bequest of nearly 800 items, Spensley helped shape the works we enjoy today when we visit the NGV. The Spensley Family were key figures in the early history of Melbourne, but they are now largely forgotten mainly since their return to Bedfordshire, England with the wealth they accumulated in Victoria. Howard’s own legacy is perhaps most important in the Arts resulting from his fascinating donation.\n
