SUMMARY:ENVIRONMENT CIRCLE
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 19 May at 6.30pm\nSpeaker: Dr David Baker-Gabb, ornithologist and ecologist\nSubject: Saving the plains wanderer from extinction\nNew Zealand-born David Baker-Gabb studied agriculture and ornithology (mostly the latter) focusing initially on birds of prey such as swamp harriers and red goshawks in the NT. A former director of Birds Australia, he has also run a consultancy advising on threatened species recovery, wildlife surveys, property management, etc. He will talk about his discoveries concerning the unusual life of the plains wanderer, a grassland bird and a threatened species with only 250-1000 individuals left in the wild. This ground-breaking work using new technologies involves collaboration between conservation bodies and farmers in northern Victoria. \n
