DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 6 May at 2.00pm with an optional lunch at 12.15pm\nSpeaker: Dr Robert La Nauze\nSubject: Furnishing Government House, Melbourne\n2026 marks the 150th anniversary of Government House, Melbourne. Although William Wardell, the building’s architect, wanted a London firm to furnish the principal rooms, the 1876 interior was supplied by the colony’s finest artisans. The outcome was an elegant, restrained tour de force, the epitome of quality and functionality.  Dr La Nauze will outline the original interior design and the main 19th century refurbishments and then discuss important features of the House’s interior, some now hidden, some obscured and others hiding in plain sight.
