SUMMARY:CLUB LUNCH
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 12 May at 11.45 for 12noon\nSpeakers: Professor Kim Rubenstein, Susan Price, Bronwen Bock, and Lucy Bradlow\nSubject: The case for re-imagining representative democracy\nIn 2024, Bronwen Bock and Lucy Bradlow founded the Better Together Party and stood for election as a single “job-sharing” candidate for the parliamentary Division of Higgins. After this division was abolished, they nominated for the Victorian Senate. When the AEC refused to accept their single job-share nomination, the women took the case to the Federal Court, represented by Kim and Susan. The proceedings were discontinued prior to the May 2025 election.\nIn this presentation, Kim will discuss the case and her work in Parliament for over ten years advocating job sharing. After her presentation, Susan, Bronwen and Lucy will join Kim to respond to questions.\nKim is an Australian legal scholar, practitioner and professor, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra and an Honorary Professor at the Australian National University.\nSusan is Principal Solicitor Civil Practice at the Women’s Legal Centre, ACT.\nBronwen has over eighteen years of experience across investment banking, corporate governance, gender equality and politics.\nLucy is an advocate for gender equality and a leader in communications and campaigns. She has spent eleven years running advocacy campaigns in the UK and the USA.\n$95.00 two course lunch with wine. \n
