SUMMARY:CLUB DINNER
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 29 April at 6.00pm for 6.30pm\nSpeaker: Dr Kate Leeming OAM\nSubject: Delivering your Dreams\nKate Leeming is an explorer/adventurer and author, who has so far pedalled106,000km – more than 2.5X the Earth’s circumference, achieving several world firsts in the process. Her major journeys include the Trans-Siberian Cycle Expedition, 13,400km from St Petersburg to Vladivostok; the 25,000km Great Australian Cycle Expedition; and Breaking the Cycle in Africa – 22,000km from Senegal to Somalia. Kate’s long term project, Breaking the Cycle South Pole, will be the first bicycle crossing of the Antarctic continent via the South Pole. Preparation has included five polar training expeditions. Kate’s most recent expedition involved 9001km following the great rivers of Central Asia ending in the Wakhan Corridor, Afghanistan where she discovered the true source of the Oxus River, thus solving a 3000 year old mystery. As a Real Tennis professional, Kate has to her credit five Australian Open singles and six doubles titles and and has been ranked world number two (woman). Kate’s books include Out There and Back: The Story of the 25,000-Km Great Australian Cycle Expedition and Njingo: Breaking the Cycle in Africa.\nInspired by polar explorer Robert Swan, Kate learned that there was much more value to her journeys than simply riding a bike. Using the story of her journeys and focusing on her African expedition, Kate will explain her passions and purposes, what has kept her going through the difficult times and the importance of following each challenge from a ‘Dream’ through to its completion.\n$125.00 three course dinner with wine.\n
